Baking a potato is simple…right? Well, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had a mediocre baked spud. Sure, we all have our preference, but to me a potato should not be waterlogged from wrapping it in aluminum foil. The outside skin texture is another component that is often overlooked. It should be firm, properly seasoned, and make you want to devour it!
Evan, our soon to be 7-year-old (how time flies), also loves these. Check out this version of the baked spud and see what you’ve been missing. Let us know what you think and leave a comment below.
Bake at 375°F
Ingredients
- 2 Baking Potatoes
- 3/4 tsp Coarse Salt
- 3/4 Freshly Ground Black Pepper
Instructions
- Clean the potatoes then dry with a towel.
- Coat the entire potato with olive oil then sprinkle all over with a little salt and pepper.
- Do not wrap with aluminium foil (it will not allow the outside skin to become crisp).
- Place the potato directly onto a cookie sheet and place into oven.
- Bake for 90 minutes ( 1 hour 30 minutes) flipping halfway through.
- After you flip, I recommend you use a fork to press a few holes in at the top side lengthwise. Once the potato is done, you should be able to use a fork to open it and fluff up the inside. Enjoy!
Notes
Tip: Do not use aluminium foil which will ruin the desired texture of the skin.
Tip: Be sure to flip the potatoes half way through baking.
Tip: Coarse salt provides better taste then table salt.

The pototo should be dried well after cleaning. Then rub lightly with oil, very lightly! Rub all over with kosher salt, a lot will fall off so place potatoes on cookie sheet to cook. The potato will be light and fluffy inside with a crispy skin on outside. The salt draws the moisture out so potato is not gluey. Try this, you’ll get fabulous potatoes.
